Non-Surgical Maxillary Expansion
We want our patients that treated with orthodontic treatment to get a beautiful smile at the end of treatment; however, our main desire is to ensure a proper occlusion relationship that will allow our patients to live healthy for a long time.
In a healthy occlusion relationship, the upper jaw must cover the lower jaw by wrapping entirely around it, like a lid on a box.
In cases of maxillary narrowness, the upper jaw cannot completely covers the lower jaw transversally, i.e., in the right-left direction. Such narrownesses can be congenital but mostly develop in childhood.
- Mouth breathing of individuals who cannot breathe comfortably enough through the nose, improper swallowing habits, and long-term use of baby bottles or pacifiers in childhood may lead to this problem.
- After the emergence of a maxillary narrowness, the lower jaw loses its orientation effect;and this may cause growth problems in the lower jaw as well as chewing problems.
We can easily treat our patients with maxillary narrowness before 18 years of age. With the non-surgical maxillary expansion procedure that we call MSI, we can now treat maxillary narrowness of our patients over 18 years of age, with no need for any surgical intervention.
This is a procedure we perform in our own clinic in 15 minutes, which does not cause our patients to feel pain or discomfort. Our patients can continue their life without feeling severe pain, except for tolerable minor discomfort.
In a healthy occlusion relationship, the upper jaw must cover the lower jaw by wrapping entirely around it, like a lid on a box. In cases of maxillary narrowness, the upper jaw cannot completely cover the lower jaw transversally in a right-left harmony. This narrowness can be congenital but can also develop later in individuals who breathe through the mouth due to uncomfortable nasal breathing, those who use baby bottle for a long time, or those who have the habit of finger sucking. The resultant narrowness may cause the lower jaw to grow in an improper position or may lead to chewing problems.
With MSI, i.e. “Non-Surgical Maxillary Expansion Procedure”, you can start your treatment with a 15-minute pain-free session in our clinic.
